Mechanics of World Wonders

  • Fitting Parts: In "World Wonders", players place pieces directly on the board to claim territories, resources or build parts of wonders. Each piece represents a conquered portion of the map or part of a structure under construction. The pieces have varied shapes that fit together on the board, requiring strategic planning to maximize space and maximize benefits.
  • Building Networks and Routes: This mechanic allows players to connect territories and resources via roads or other forms of infrastructure. By building routes, the player facilitates the transportation of essential materials for the construction of wonders, as well as increasing efficiency in the collection of resources and expansion of controlled territory.
  • Automatic Resource Growth: Resources accumulate automatically over the course of each turn, based on the amount of territory a player controls and the presence of specific structures that increase the growth rate. This model encourages rapid and strategic expansion, since controlling more areas can generate a continuous flow of supplies for new constructions and expansions.
  • Loans: Players can take out loans from a central bank in the game to speed up construction and expansion. However, these loans come with an obligation to pay back a fixed amount of resources at the end of each round. Failure to pay can result in penalties such as loss of territory or points.
  • Grid with Squares: The game board is divided into a modular grid of squares that defines the playing areas where the pieces and wonders can be placed. This structure offers a spatial challenge, as players must efficiently plan their placement to optimize the use of the available space.
  • Order Markers: These markers are used by players to define the order in which they will carry out their actions during a round. Each player has a limited set of markers, which must be placed strategically to maximize the efficiency of their actions in context with their opponents' moves.
