How to play Wonderland's War

The aim is to gather the best allies and equipment before going into battle. Carefully choose where to place your troops in each region of the board, paying attention to the special abilities of each card and how they interact with each other.

During the battle phase, pull tokens out of your bag until you decide to stop or are forced to do so. Watch out for "press your luck" so you don't go over the limit and lose life points. Balancing risks and rewards is crucial.

Use the unique abilities of each Alice in Wonderland character to your advantage. Each character has their own style of play and bonuses that can be decisive in different parts of the game.

Pay attention to the most hotly contested locations and use your chips strategically. Facing opponents in the most competitive places can guarantee you valuable points, but it can also be very risky.

Never underestimate the value of wonder cards; they offer abilities that can turn the game in your favor at critical moments. Choose wisely during the preparatory phases to maximize their impact during battles.

Manage your resources well and hone your skills throughout the game. Striking a balance between aggression and defense can be the key to victory.

Mechanics of Wonderland's War

  • Deck building: Players build their personal deck by collecting cards throughout the game. Their cards represent skills, resources or actions that can be used during their turn. Each player must strategically assemble their deck to optimize their moves and adapt it to the circumstances of the game.
  • Bags and parts: Players use bags to store acquired pieces. During the game, pieces are drawn from the bags to determine actions, combats and skill results. Efficient bag management and piece content are crucial to maximizing the chances of success.
  • Influence / Majority in the Area: Control of the areas on the board is determined by the presence of the players' forces. To achieve a majority, players need to strategically allocate their pieces or characters in different territories to secure bonuses and special abilities granted to those who hold control of an area.
  • Rolling dice: Some decisions and combats in the game are resolved by rolling the dice. Luck and strategy go hand in hand, as players must decide when to take risks based on the possible outcomes of the dice.
  • Open Buy: Cards, tokens or characters are available to all players in an open purchase area. Players must carefully choose when and what to acquire to enhance their personal strategies, ensuring that their choices do not benefit their opponents too much.
  • Push your luck: Many actions in the game allow players to extend their moves beyond insurance, taking big risks for big rewards. The consequences of pushing your luck can be severe, but perfect timing can turn the tide of a match.
  • Players with Different Skills: Each player takes on the role of a character with unique abilities, directly influencing their strategic approach to the game. Knowing your character's abilities well is essential to making the most of their special skills.
  • Rondel: An action selection mechanism where players move a marker in a circular path. The actions taken depend on where the marker stops, forcing players to plan several rounds ahead to optimize their subsequent actions.
  • Bets and bluffs: During certain moments of the game, players have the opportunity to place bets or engage in bluffing in order to gain an advantage. Manipulating opponents' perceptions and hiding your true intentions can be the key to success.
  • End of game bonus: In addition to the benefits obtained during the match, certain objectives provide additional victory points at the end of the game. Fulfilling these conditions can be decisive in the final victory, encouraging tactical variations throughout the game.
  • Move through the deck: Ability to manipulate the order or choose specific cards from the personal deck, allowing players to better control their future actions and increase the effectiveness of their moves.
  • Chip draw system: Various aspects of the game are determined by drawing chips from a bag. This system introduces a component of unpredictability, where the composition of the bag and the players' choices can have a profound influence on the chances of success.
