How to play Twilight Imperium (Fourth Edition): Prophecy of Kings
Choose a race and receive the faction board, command tokens, control tokens, technology cards and initial objectives. Each faction has unique abilities that will influence your strategy.
Set up the game board. Place the Mecatol Rex system in the center and distribute the remaining systems in a hexagonal shape, forming the galaxy. Follow the instructions in the manual for a balanced configuration.
Deal out the action, political and advanced technology cards. Place the resource and influence tokens in the indicated areas of the planets. Place your starting units in your faction's starting system.
The game begins with the strategy phase. Choose a strategy card that will give you a special ability during the round. The order of choice is determined by the player's initiative.
In the action phase, you can move ships, activate systems, engage in combat and explore planets. Use command tokens to activate these actions. Balance your decisions between expansion, diplomacy and technology.
During the status phase, players claim visible objectives to earn victory points. Upgrade technology cards and redistribute command tokens.
End the round with the policy phase, where proposals are voted on and can change the rules of the game or offer benefits or disadvantages to players.
The players keep repeating these phases until one of them reaches the victory points needed to win the game. Remember to adapt your strategy according to your opponents' actions.
