How to play Super Mario: Level Up! Board Game

To play Super Mario: Level Up!, each player chooses characters and receives Secret Objective cards that correspond to different characters and places on the board that are worth points when hit.

Players take turns rolling dice and moving characters up the board, trying to place them in the most valuable spots before the board fills up.

Players can relocate characters or swap them using Power cards, changing the dynamics and strategy of each turn.

When a character reaches the top of the board, the players vote on whether that character stays at the top. If the majority vote yes, the phase ends and the points are counted.

Mechanics of Super Mario: Level Up! Board Game

  • Voting - In Super Mario: Level Up! Board Game, voting mechanics are used to decide which character will be promoted to the next level of the board. Players discuss and vote, based on their own strategic interests, considering which characters will best benefit their betting pool. Voting occurs when a player chooses not to move a piece when they reach the top of the board and decides to start a vote to promote characters.
  • Bets and Bluffs - Each player has specific character cards and silently places their bets on which characters they believe will reach the top and score points. This mechanic allows for bluffing, as players can move characters who are not in their bets to deceive their opponents or protect them, avoiding suspicion about their true objectives. Bluffing is essential for manipulating opponents' decisions during the game.
  • Deduction - Deduction is central to trying to identify which characters are part of the other players' bets. By observing movement and promotion decisions during the game, each player must deduce which pieces are associated with their opponents' strategies. Deductive skills can have a direct influence on players' strategy construction and choice of votes to maximize their own points and minimize those of their competitors.
