How to play Rummikub Onyx

To start, each player chooses 14 random pieces from the pile. The aim is to be the first to get rid of all your pieces by forming sets and sequences on the tables.

A set is made up of three or four pieces of the same number, but in different colors. A sequence is made up of three or more pieces in numerical order in the same color.

For your first move, you must score at least 30 points with the starting pieces. If you can't, draw a piece from the pile and wait your turn again.

After making the initial move, you can add pieces to the sets and sequences on the table, either your own or those of other players. You can rearrange existing groups to make your moves easier.

If you can't play a piece, you have to buy one from the pile and wait for the next round. Joker pieces can replace any other piece to complete sets or sequences.

The game ends when one player has used up all their pieces. The other players add up the values of the remaining pieces, and the total is added as negative points. The winner is the first to earn the amount of points initially stipulated.

Main objective

The main objective of Rummikub Onyx is to be the first to arrange all your numbered tiles in valid combinations, such as sequences or groups, on the table. Players start with 14 pieces and, each turn, they can add pieces to existing combinations or start new ones, as long as they respect the rules of the game. The winner is whoever empties their rack first by fulfilling these conditions.

Mechanics of Rummikub Onyx

  • Collecting Sets - In Rummikub Onyx, players start with a set of numbered tiles on their shelves. The aim is to form valid sets to be placed on the table. The sets can be sequences of three or more pieces of the same suit in numerical order or groups of three or four pieces of the same number in different suits. It is essential to create strategies to collect the pieces needed to form these sets during the game.
  • Placing Parts - On their turn, players must place one or more valid sets on the table from their pieces. The initial rule requires each player to make the first placement of pieces totaling at least 30 points, taking into account the values of the pieces, to open their game. After opening, players can rearrange and add to the pieces on the table as necessary in their subsequent turns, respecting the rules for forming groups and sequences. The ability to adapt and rearrange the existing pieces on the table to form new sets is a fundamental part of the game's strategy.
