Mystery of the Abbey

**Mystery of the Abbey is an intriguing deduction game set in a medieval abbey in France, where a shocking murder of a monk takes place. Players take on the role of monks from different orders, each with their own unique characteristics - whether they look burly or thin, whether they wear a hood or not, and even whether they have a beard or not. The mission is to find out who the culprit is, using cunning and strategy. During the game, you move around the various spaces of the abbey, collecting clues and interacting with other players, asking intelligent questions about the cards each one holds. The dynamic nature of the turns allows you to explore the abbey and investigate what your colleagues know, while keeping your own cards secret. Every four rounds, the "Mass" takes place, where everyone gathers in the Sanctuary. This is when event cards are revealed, adding an extra layer of unpredictability to the game. It's interesting to note that, unlike similar games, you don't automatically win by making a correct accusation: the strategy of accumulating points for correct statements is also key. Mystery of the Abbey is not just about who finds the culprit, but about how you use your questions and answers to accumulate points and unmask the criminal. With unique events and the possibility of customizing rules, each match is a new experience. Get ready for a challenge full of mystery and fun!

OBJECTIVE OF THE GAME

The main objective of Mystery of the Abbey is to discover the monk guilty of murdering a brother in the monastery before the other players do. As you explore the abbey, you collect clues by interrogating other characters and confronting their suspicions, similar to a themed version of "Clue" with a touch of "The Name of the Rose". I remember the tension of a game in which, after several wrong guesses, the solution lay in a subtle question asked in the library - a detail that made all the difference and ensured my victory. This engaging combination of deduction and social interaction provides a unique experience every time the game is played.

Tips for playing

  • Don't underestimate the importance of questions; the more specific they are, the more clues you can uncover.
  • Use the little bell wisely to call everyone to confess and gain crucial information.
  • Explore the board thoroughly, visiting different rooms to gather as much information as possible.

GAME mechanics

  • Hand Management - In the game Mystery of the Abbey, players must carefully look after the cards in their hands. The cards represent critical information about the suspected monks. Effective strategies involve keeping the valuable clues and discarding the less useful ones, helping to narrow down the possibilities in solving the mystery. Knowing when to divulge or conceal a clue is also crucial to confusing your opponents.
  • Collecting Sets - Players need to gather sets of information about the monks, categorizing them by characteristics such as order, habit and beard. Completing a set can help eliminate suspects from the list, bringing the player closer to solving the mystery. This mechanic encourages the exchange and sharing of information, but knowing who to trust is key.
  • Area Movement - Players move around the monastery board, with different areas offering different advantages and information. The Chapter Room, for example, allows everyone to ask compulsory questions, while the Library can grant a secret consultation of event cards. Carefully deciding which areas to visit each turn maximizes data collection and progress in the investigation.
  • Paper and pen - Fundamental to the deduction and organization of information, this mechanic allows players to note down hypotheses and rule out suspicions. By recording observations made during the game, it is possible to visualize patterns and connections between clues, which leads to valuable insights for uncovering the culprit hidden among the monks of the monastery.
  • Deduction - The core of Mystery of the Abbey is logical deduction. Throughout the game, players use the clues they obtain to eliminate suspect options. Using sharp reasoning to interpret the information available and make assertive accusations is essential for victory. It's like piecing together a jigsaw puzzle, where each new clue could be the key to discovering who is responsible for the mystery.
