Monopoly: Puerto Rico

Monopoly: Puerto Rico is a licensed variation of the classic Monopoly, set on the charming island of Puerto Rico. Players move around the board, buying land and developing their plantations with facilities such as market houses and warehouses. When you land on another player's property, you have to pay rent, which increases with the number of properties connected. Strategy and negotiation are key as players try to accumulate wealth and expand their holdings. The ultimate goal is to amass as much wealth as possible, while trying to bankrupt your opponents in a vibrant and culturally rich setting.

OBJECTIVE OF THE GAME

Monopoly: Puerto Rico is not an officially licensed game in the Monopoly series; there seems to be some confusion with another game called Puerto Rico. In the Puerto Rico board game, the main objective is to accumulate more victory points than the other players by developing an economy based on plantations, managing resources, constructing buildings and shipping goods to the mainland. Players take on roles such as governor or merchant in turns, choosing actions that optimize their economic strategies to maximize the efficiency of their operations and thus their final score.

Tips for playing

Here are some tips for doing better in the game Monopoly: Puerto Rico:

  • Prioritize the purchase of corn plantations and tobacco production early in the game.
  • Focus on building a diversified economy to maximize profits.
  • Use the settlers wisely; they are essential for the functioning of the buildings.
  • Manage your resources effectively; avoid accumulating products without selling them.
  • Focus on constructing buildings that generate victory points at the end of the game.
  • Keep an eye on your opponents' actions and try to predict their moves.
  • Timing is crucial; sometimes it's better to wait a shift to get more out of it.
  • Use governor bonuses whenever possible to gain an advantage.
  • Don't underestimate the power of smaller buildings at the start of the game.
  • Remember to optimize the use of your coins to avoid running out of resources.

GAME mechanics

  • Collecting Sets - In Monopoly: Puerto Rico, players need to acquire properties to complete color sets. Completing a set allows the player to build houses and hotels, increasing the rental value and profit potential.
  • Elimination of Players - During the game, a player can be eliminated if they become insolvent, i.e. without enough money or assets to pay their debts. Upon being eliminated, the player's property is sold or transferred according to the rules.
  • Auction / Bidding - When a player lands on an unpurchased property and chooses not to buy it, it can go to auction. All players have the opportunity to bid, starting with the bank, and the property is sold to the highest bidder.
  • Negotiation - In the course of the game, players can trade with each other, exchanging property, money or luck/azar cards. Negotiations allow for strategic adjustments and can drastically change the course of the game.
  • Scroll / Rotate and Move - Movement on the board is determined by the roll of the dice. Each player rolls two dice at the start of their turn and moves their piece the corresponding number of spaces, activating the action of the space they land on.
