How to play Monopoly: Coraline

Start by distributing the money equally to each player. Each player must choose a pawn and place it on the "Start" square.

Players roll the dice on their turn and advance according to the number they get. The action to be performed depends on the square you stop on: it could be buying, paying rent, drawing a card, among others.

When you stop at properties for sale, you can buy them, as long as you have enough money. Otherwise, it goes up for auction among the other players.

If you land on another player's property, pay the established rent. The rent may increase as houses and hotels are built.

Lucky or unlucky cards, when drawn, must be read and followed. They can generate gains, losses or special instructions.

Construction is only allowed once you have all the properties of one color. Houses can be bought, then hotels.

If you pass or stop at the "Start" square, you receive a set amount. However, if you land on the "Go to Prison" square, you go straight there without going through the "Start".

The game ends when only one player is not bankrupt. The winner is the one who accumulates the most wealth. Good luck!

Main objective

The main objective of the game Monopoly: Coraline, just like traditional Monopoly, is to accumulate as much wealth as possible by buying, selling and trading properties, but with the theme based on the universe of the movie "Coraline". Players compete to acquire iconic locations and objects related to the movie's plot, using the same money management mechanics and strategy to bankrupt their opponents and thus win the game.

Mechanics of Monopoly: Coraline

  • Collecting Sets: In Monopoly: Coraline, this mechanic is based on acquiring properties inspired by the Coraline universe. Each set corresponds to a theme from the movie, such as the Pink House, the Garden or the Sewing Room. Completing a set allows the player to build Buttons and, eventually, the Snow Palace, increasing the rent charged for the properties belonging to the set.
  • Roll / Turn: Similar to traditional dice, the game uses a scrolling device stylized as an item from the film, such as a telescope or a button. This tool determines how much the players can move on the board each turn. Some faces of the device have special events that refer to events in the movie, providing a more immersive experience for players.
  • Mover: After the turn, players move their personalized tiles, which represent important characters such as Coraline, the Cat or the Other Father, around the board. Each space can represent properties to be acquired, special events or specific challenges in the Coraline universe. Movement is not only for acquisition, but also explorative, encouraging players to experience every aspect of the board.
