GAME mechanics

  • Collecting Sets - In Minnesota-Opoly, the objective is to acquire properties by forming complete sets of colors. This allows you to build improvements, such as houses, increasing the amount of rent charged to other players. Forming sets is crucial to mastering the game and generates a significant economic advantage, as it guarantees a stable source of income every time an opposing player stops at your properties.
  • Elimination of Players - Players can be eliminated when they become insolvent, i.e. when they are unable to pay off a debt by selling their property. This intensifies the competition and reallocates the assets of those eliminated to the other participants, making the game more dynamic and challenging as it progresses.
  • Auction / Bidding - When someone decides not to buy a property when they fall into it, it goes up for auction. Participants bid, and the highest bidder takes the property. This mechanic adds a strategic layer, forcing players to balance their finances with the opportunity to expand their real estate portfolio.
  • Negotiation - Trading property, money or special cards with other players is essential to advance in the game. This can include advantageous exchanges that help complete sets or get rid of unwanted cards. As with any good business deal, the ability to persuade and reach advantageous agreements is key to ensuring success in Minnesota-Opoly.
  • Scroll / Rotate and Move - Each turn begins with the player rolling the dice and moving their pawn around the board according to the result of the dice. This mechanic dictates the movements through the game and which properties or challenges the players will face. Being random, it adds an element of luck, but the strategy of managing resources and giving luck a little push makes all the difference in the end.
