Catan Histories: Rise of the Inkas

In Catan Histories: Rise of the Inkas, you are challenged to build and expand a vast Inca empire as you travel through different eras of their civilization. The game retains the essence of the original Catan, but introduces an intriguing new displacement mechanic that reflects the evolving dynamics of the Inca kingdom. As you progress through the eras, the need to adapt is crucial, as you could lose control of your settlements, making you vulnerable to other players seeking to conquer the most valuable regions. The resources available add to the strategic depth of the game, including fish, coca and feathers, which not only enrich the market, but also open up new commercial opportunities, encouraging interactions and negotiations between participants. The competition for territories and resources has never been so intense in Catan Histories: Rise of the Inkas; every decision can change the fate of your empire.

OBJECTIVE OF THE GAME

The main objective of Catan Histories: Rise of the Inkas is to build and develop civilizations in the Andes region, similar to the original Catan game, but with the difference that instead of a single civilization, players must build three civilizations throughout the game, each representing an era of the Incas. When a civilization reaches its maximum development, it decays and is covered by vegetation, so you have to start a new era without losing the progress you've made. The first player to successfully establish all three civilizations wins the game.

Tips for playing

Here are some tips for doing better in the game Catan Histories: Rise of the Inkas:

  • Use the geography of the board to protect your tribes from attack, especially in terrain that provides important resources.
  • Prioritize the development of roads and villages to ensure control over strategic areas and accelerate your rise.
  • Focus on diversifying your sources of funds to protect yourself against shortages and increase your trading options.
  • Follow your opponents' progress to predict their movements and block important paths or spaces for them.
  • Use development cards wisely to gain the unexpected advantage over your opponents at key moments.
  • Plan the strategic migration of your tribes to more valuable land, once old villages are decaying.
  • Negotiate intelligently with players, offering resources you have in excess in exchange for those you need most.
  • Pay attention to the possibility of using the thief to interfere with your opponents' operations and gain a momentary advantage.
  • Monitor trade trails and keep your transportation routes flexible to react quickly to changes in the game.
  • Study the progress cards, such as the irrigation concession, to obtain additional benefits that can boost your rise.

GAME mechanics

  • Building Networks and Routes - In Catan Histories: Rise of the Inkas, players build networks of roads and villages to expand their domain. These constructions are fundamental to increasing territorial influence over the board and are made using resources obtained from material cards. The strategic positioning of roads and villages is essential for controlling regions and blocking the advance of opponents.
  • Hand Management - In this game, players must manage their resource cards efficiently to optimize the construction and progress of their civilizations. Decisions about when to exchange, use or accumulate cards are crucial, especially considering possible space limitations and loss of resources due to in-game events such as thief attacks.
  • Negotiation - The exchange of resources between players is a vital part of the strategy. As it is difficult to obtain all the raw materials you need from your own cards, trading with other players can provide what you need to progress. It's important to balance what you offer and what you receive in exchanges so as not to give your opponents too much of an advantage.
  • Data Scrolling - Each turn, the dice are rolled to determine which terrains produce resources. This random element introduces uncertainty and demands real-time adaptation of strategies. The numbers on the dice correspond to the locations on the board, affecting the generation of resources for all players.
  • Modular Tray - The game board is made up of movable hexagons, which can be rearranged, making each game unique. This affects the location of resources and the formation of building networks, providing great variability in possible strategies. The modularity of the board also allows for different initial configurations, increasing the replayability factor of the game.
