Carcassonne: The Castle

Carcassonne: The Castle is an independent board game set in the walled city of Carcassonne. Focused on two players, it features an adaptation of the classic piece placement mechanic, but with a unique twist that takes place within the castle walls. Participants compete to develop their territories around the scoring track, which is also the wall itself. Throughout the game, players can collect bonus items by reaching certain points on the walls, offering valuable advantages for advancing in the match. The game pieces are placed exclusively in the areas inside the walls, which requires careful strategy, as placement options are often limited. The followers have different roles: the heralds occupy the paths, the knights position themselves in the towers, the squires in the houses, and the merchants in the courtyards, which become even more profitable if they have a market. At the end, the game rewards not only the construction of structures, but also the largest "fortress", which rewards the player with the largest completed house. Scoring becomes even more dynamic with the bonus pieces collected on the walls, allowing you to double points or count incomplete structures. Carcassonne: The Castle offers an engaging strategic experience rich in tactical decisions.

How to play Carcassonne: The Castle

To start the game, each player chooses a color and receives the corresponding wall pieces and followers.

Set up the board with the wall pieces forming a rectangle. Place the main board between the players.

During a turn, the player pulls out a piece and places it on the board, connecting it to the piece already placed. Make sure that the roads, walls and lawns are correctly connected.

After placing a piece, the player can choose to place a follower in one of the following areas of the newly placed piece: road, building or lawn. The follower must be your color.

Complete features (such as roads or buildings) to score points. Return the tracker to your inventory when you complete a feature.

The game ends when all the pieces have been placed. Score uncompleted features, lawns, and whoever has the most points wins.

Main objective

In Carcassonne: The Castle, the main objective is to accumulate as many points as possible by building and controlling strategic areas within the walls of a medieval castle. Players place terrain tiles to build towers, houses and market squares, while positioning their followers to claim these areas and earn points. The strategy involves surrounding the opponent and maximizing the efficient use of each piece and follower until all the pieces are used and the player with the most points at the end is declared the winner.

Mechanics of Carcassonne: The Castle

  • Placing Parts - At the start of your turn, draw and reveal a tile from the stack. Place this piece adjacent to at least one previously placed piece, respecting the rules for connecting roads and walls. The aim is to expand your territory strategically, boosting your future actions in the game.
  • Influence / Majority in the Area - After placing a piece, you can place a follower on a segment of the placed piece, be it a road, square or tower. The location of the follower directly influences the control of areas, since only the player with the most followers in an area will score when it is completed.
  • End of Game Bonus - At the end of the game, additional points are distributed based on unfinished areas that have followers. Unfinished roads, incomplete squares and towers that haven't reached their full potential still earn players points, also taking into account the amount of special resources collected throughout the game.
