The Forbidden Island
Forbidden Island is a cooperative game that guarantees lots of fun while challenging players to team up in search of treasure on an island shrouded in mystery. The game mechanics are simple but full of tension. Players take turns moving their pawns on a board made up of cards that form the island. The challenge? As the game progresses, parts of the island sink, becoming unreachable before players can collect the treasures. With each turn, the water rises, raising the adrenaline and requiring more elaborate strategies. During a game with my friends, we had to quickly decide who would pick up the nearest treasure, while other areas of the island became hopelessly submerged. This need for collaboration and quick decision-making makes each session unique and memorable. The game's design is a particular highlight. The beautiful tin that contains it houses high-quality components: the treasures are well-detailed plastic pieces, and the wooden pawns offer a classic touch. The cards representing the island are especially impressive, with vibrant illustrations that bring the experience to life. Forbidden Island is flexible in terms of difficulty, allowing players to choose between different characters, each with unique abilities. This not only adds a strategic dimension to the game, but also ensures that it remains fresh, even after several playthroughs. Ideal for groups of 2 to 4 people, the game becomes increasingly challenging with more players. The tension builds as time runs out and the water threatens to swallow everything. With an avalanche of positive reviews, Forbidden Island won over not only the critics, but also a legion of fans. It was so successful that it spawned a sequel, The Forbidden Desert, which promises to bring new adventures. GAME mechanics
- Collecting Sets - In "The Forbidden Island", your goal is to collect sets of treasure cards. Collect four identical cards to get one of the four treasures. Without them, your rescue mission will fail! The key is to work as a team to exchange cards and collect them efficiently.
- Cooperative - All the players are working together against the board. The island is sinking fast, and the only way to beat it is to join forces. Coordination is key and everyone comes out victorious or defeated together. A solid, strategic gaming experience.
- Players with Different Skills - Each player takes on a unique role with special abilities. It could be the diver who accesses isolated areas or the pilot who transports other players. Use these skills to your advantage, adapting to the critical situation of the game.
- Modular Tray - The island is made up of tiles that change position with each game. This random configuration of the board ensures that each game is a new adventure, offering different challenges and rescue strategies.
- Hand Management - Take good care of the cards you have. Keeping the right number of cards and knowing when to exchange them is vital for success. Knowing the right time to use or exchange your cards defines the fate of the team.
- Movement in Grids - The characters move on a grid of pieces on the board. Choosing the right move, whether to save a piece from the island or reach a treasure, can make all the difference between victory and defeat.
- Pick up and Delivery - Capture a treasure and transport it to safety. Careful planning is required to determine who takes the treasure and how it will be delivered before the island disappears beneath the waves.
- Action Points - Limit actions per turn. Move, save part of the island or exchange cards, always considering the consequences of each action. Optimize your action points so that each move brings the team closer to escape.
- Map: Reduction - As the island sinks, spaces become impassable, requiring prioritization of moves and strategies. Adapting to the board's losses is essential to keep players and treasures safe.
- Solo - If you love a solo challenge, the game offers a solo variation. Control multiple characters on your own, organize strategies and save the island from disaster all by yourself, testing your planning and execution skills.
