Start by choosing your investigator and collecting their investigator card, special ability, sanity and health. Make sure each player uses the corresponding piece on the board.

Divide the Encounter cards according to type and shuffle them. Place the Mythology cards in the appropriate place and determine the Great Old One for the match. Arrange the monsters according to type and place them in the monster bag.

Deal out equipment cards and spells to the investigators, according to their abilities or prerequisites. Determine the first player marker and take turns clockwise.

On your turn, you can move around the board, face monsters, acquire new equipment or complete encounters. Use your actions wisely to advance the plot.

Resolve the Mythology card at the end of each turn, which will add new complications to the board. Prioritize closing portals and fighting threats to prevent the Great Old One from awakening.

Collaborate with other players to maximize your chances of victory. Communicate tactics and assign tasks to get clues and close portals before time runs out.
